Damocles Fencing is a premier fencing club situated in Fredericton, NB. We offer top-notch fencing classes for individuals aged 7 and above, catering to both recreational enthusiasts and elite level participants. Established two decades ago by Barbara Daniel, a nationally certified Level 4 foil & epee coach with over 35 years of experience, Damocles Fencing stands out as the largest fencing club in New Brunswick. Our fencers have achieved remarkable success, including winning a Silver medal at the Canada Games in 2023. The website aims to inform new members, showcase the sport of fencing, and attract new participants. Through our expert coaching and personalized approach, we aim to empower individuals to achieve their full potential in the art of fencing.
Barbara Daniel starts coaching in Halifax while competing in foil for Nova Scotia at the 1975 and 1979 Canada Games. Over her career she founds six fencing clubs, coaches at eight Canada Games for Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, and serves Canada's national women's epee program as coach, weapon leader and team manager at World Championships and FISU Games.
Damocles Fencing is founded by Barbara Daniel, with a vision to create a leading fencing institution that nurtures talent and passion for the sport.
Damocles Fencing relocates to a state-of-the-art facility, expanding its capacity to accommodate a growing number of aspiring fencers.
Barbara Daniel retires from coaching. The club is taken over by a team of talented coaches, some of whom she coached and trained herself, who carry her vision forward.
Barbara Daniel is inducted into the Fencing New Brunswick Hall of Fame as both a coach and an athlete, honouring a career that shaped fencing in the Maritimes and gave Damocles its start.
