Foil is the lightest of the three weapons and the one most fencers learn first. Points are scored with the tip of the blade on the torso only, and a rule called right of way decides who earns the touch when both fencers hit at the same time, so foil rewards timing, control and clean technique as much as speed. It is a fantastic starting point for young and new fencers because it builds the footwork, distance and blade skills that carry over to every weapon. Damocles offers foil in our youth and adult programs and in open bouting, and our coaches compete and medal in foil at the provincial and national level.
